George Gets Things Done!

Wasaga Beach has experienced substantial growth and development during the four terms I served as a Councillor in 2000 to 2003, 2006 to 2014 and 2018 to 2022. Here are some of the accomplishments of Council during the years I served:

  • Constructed all 3 phases of the RecPlex including the YMCA;
  • Developed and constructed dedicated Dog, Skate Board and BMX Parks adjacent to the Rec-Plex;
  • Exercised land option to re-establish Beach Area 2 as Municipal Parkland;
  • Installed an alternative accessible path to Beach Area 2 via “Mobi” Mats;
  • Purchased an additional 100 acres adjacent to Klondike Sports Park to ensure future expansion as a multi-purpose  venue (including soccer pitches, ball diamonds, horseshoe pitches, pavilion, main building with kitchen and meeting room);
  • Recognized the need (with resultant funding) to construct a new Fire Hall for additional fire/safety supports to our growing community;
  • Developed a Community Transit System  with a Transit Link between the Wasaga, Collingwood and Blue Mountain;
  • Approved construction of a building – now the Community Health Centre – at 45th Street and Ramblewood Drive that currently offers a growing range of medical services including Life Labs, X-Ray clinic, physiotherapy and doctor clinic/offices;

  • Supported the opening of our own radio station – the Radio Station 97.7 “The Beach”
  • Approved the Stonebridge Commercial and Residential Development and construction of Royal Bank at east end plus Parkbridge Office Building
  • Aggressive business solicitation with success attracting Walmart, Superstore, Canadian Tire, Mark’s Work Warehouse, LCBO (45th Street). Tangible benefits included investments in town revenue coffers and many new local jobs;
  • Successful initiation and completion of Mosley St. and Main St. (3rd St. to River Rd W.) widening with sidewalks;
